Nestgrid — Privacy Policy

1. Our approach: private by default

Nestgrid is a private "shared brain" for your household. Much of what Nestgrid does — reading your notes, photos, and voice memos into events, reminders, and facts — happens locally on your iPhone. To make extraction smarter, Nestgrid also uses optional AI features that are on by default and process certain captures securely in the cloud (see Section 3). You are told about this during setup and can turn these features off at any time in Settings; when they are off, that content stays on your device.

We do not show ads. We do not sell your data. We do not track you across other apps or websites.

2. What Nestgrid processes on your device

The following are used only on your device and are not transmitted to us or third parties:

Your captures — typed notes, scanned text (OCR), photos you pick, PDFs, voice transcriptions, and the events/reminders/facts extracted from them.
Location for "Learn my frequent places" (optional) — if you enable it, Nestgrid notices places you visit often to offer place-based reminders. This processing is on-device; coordinates are never sent to us.
Capture location stamp (optional) — a coarse "City, Country" note of where a capture was made, for your reference. On-device only.
Calendar events you choose to import from Apple Calendar.
Your product catalog — names you give scanned products are stored locally so they resolve offline next time.
Sensitive items — values you mark sensitive are encrypted at rest on your device (Apple Keychain / CryptoKit) and can be locked behind Face ID.

3. Data sent off your device (only with the relevant feature on)

Nestgrid transmits data off your device only in these cases, and only the minimum needed:

Notes:

These transmissions are for app functionality only. The content is not linked to your identity by us, and is never used for advertising or tracking.
Where a processing service ("proxy") is used, it authenticates the app using Apple's App Attest (an anti-fraud check) — not a personal account.
A scanned barcode is a product code, not information about you.

4. Permissions we request (and why)

Nestgrid asks for a permission only when a feature needs it, and explains why at the moment:

Camera — scan flyers, documents, and product barcodes.
Microphone / Speech Recognition — record and transcribe voice notes (on-device by default).
Photos — read photos you pick to extract their text.
Location (When in Use / Always) — optional capture-location stamp and "Learn my frequent places."
Calendars — read upcoming events you choose to import (we never change or delete your calendars).
Face ID — unlock items you mark sensitive.

You can change or revoke any of these in iOS Settings at any time.

5. Payments & subscriptions

Nestgrid+ is an optional auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's In-App Purchase. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive or store your payment-card details. Subscription management, billing, and renewals are handled by Apple under Apple's terms.

6. Sharing within your household

Items you share are visible to members of your Nest (household). Private items and items sent to a single member are filtered so only the intended people can see them. We do not share household content with anyone outside your Nest, and we do not sell it.

7. Third parties

Depending on the optional features you use, the following may process data on our or your behalf, under their own terms:

Apple — device platform, iCloud (if enabled), In-App Purchase, App Attest.
Anthropic — Claude, for opt-in capture extraction.
Google — Gemini, for opt-in cloud voice transcription.
Open Food Facts — open product database, for barcode lookups (data licensed under ODbL).
Cloudflare — infrastructure for our processing service.

We are not responsible for the independent practices of these providers; review their policies for details.

8. Children & families

Nestgrid is designed for households, which may include children. We minimize data and keep processing on-device by default. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for advertising or tracking. If you believe a child's information has been handled improperly, contact us at volome@gmail.com.

9. Your rights & controls

Access & export — export a full copy of your data from Settings → Your data (JSON).
Delete — erase all data in your Nest from Settings → Your data. You can also delete the app.
Opt-outs — every off-device feature is a toggle you control in Settings. AI extraction and cloud voice transcription are on by default (disclosed during setup) and can be turned off anytime; place learning is off by default.
GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA-CPRA — depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict processing. Because most data is on your device, you exercise these directly in the app; for anything we hold, contact volome@gmail.com. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under U.S. state laws.

10. Data retention & security

On-device data persists until you delete it or remove the app. Data that transits our processing service is used transiently to fulfill the request and is not retained for profiling. We protect data with on-device encryption (Apple Keychain / CryptoKit), App Attest, and transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

11. International transfers

If you use an optional off-device feature, data may be processed in countries other than yours (e.g. where our providers operate).

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, surfaced in the app.
